Parliamentary Law

Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised (RRONR), 11th edition is the parliamentary authority used by most organizations. All board members should be well versed on the duties of officers as described in RRONR unless your organization/chapter has its own duties included as part of the organization's/chapter's constitution & bylaws.

In some organizations, the parliamentarian is the final arbiter under parliamentary law, while in others the chair can over-rule the parliamentarian. In the latter case, the members can vote to appeal the ruling of the chair. If something is not included in the constitution & bylaws then your organization's parliamentary authority is your source.
